Sports Basement's Gravel Grind

 
Join us on Saturday, April 2 for Sports Basement's Gravel Grind, led by our very own Matt Gough! It begins with a spin up to Tunnel Road to get to Grizzly Peak Boulevard. From there we'll head north to the Redwood Valley Railway where we'll hop on dirt and ride down to Wildcat Canyon Road, just before descending Spruce St. on the way back to Sports Basement Berkeley. Here's the breakdown:
 

When: Saturday, April 2, 9am-11am

Where: Sports Basement Berkeley

Distance: 19.3 miles

Elevation Gain: 2,200 ft.

 
We'll be meeting at the front of Sports Basement Berkeley at 8:45am - registration is not required to attend. Please bring everything you need with you as the store will not be open until we return.

    Hey Geo,

    This is a great question! I think you’d want proper gravel tires for this ride, so like 32mm minimum width and some knobby tires tread. There are some short steep sections you would not get traction on with road tires, and in the same vein some of the descents would be rough.

    Hey guys! This sounds like a ton of fun. For new gravel riders, do you have recommendations on bike specs? For example is this a route that would be reasonable on a road bike with 28s, or something that really requires a more off road set up?
