Basementeer Spotlight: LBC Hero Squad
Provided by LBC Hero Squad

The LBC Hero Squad is a nonprofit organization led by passionate parents with the mission of bringing inclusion, acceptance, and kindness to neurodivergent youth. LBC Hero Squad’s annual Autism Awareness Week was born at Cubberley TK-8 in 2016 with the help of our small but mighty group of parents and school staff. We have since inspired other schools in the Long Beach Unified School District to join the celebration of neurodiversity and branched out into hosting community events in Long Beach. Our vision, a city-wide culture of kindness and acceptance, celebrating differences of all children.
Our Mission
The LBC Hero Squad's mission is to provide awareness, education, and advance acceptance, kindness, and inclusion of neurodivergent youth.
Our Goal
The LBC Hero Squad is a dynamic nonprofit organization, driven by devoted parents who strive to inspire inclusion, acceptance, and kindness for neurodivergent youth. We craft engaging events that celebrate our unique differences while building a loving and inclusive community. Our goal is to ensure that every family has access to a fun, safe, and supportive space to be their authentic selves.
Events and Work we have done
At the LBC Hero Squad, we deeply understand the unique needs of our neurodivergent community, and we are committed to creating events that foster connection, understanding, and support. We offer Neurodiversity Dining experiences at various restaurants. These intimate settings allow friends and families to connect over shared meals, creating meaningful moments in a private atmosphere.
Our DIY workshops encourage creativity, where participants can express themselves through hands-on art projects designed specifically for neurodivergent individuals, allowing them to explore their potential in a nurturing environment.
We also partner with the Super Skate Posse to host skateboard giveaways for neurodivergent and low-income youth. By providing brand new complete skateboards, helmets, and shoes, along with a sensory-friendly session before the main event, we ensure that every child feels comfortable and included.
Our "Hey! DJ Giveback" program with the World Famous VIP Records, reflects our commitment to empowering youth through music and providing brand new Pioneer DJ mixers and offering tutorials. We believe in equipping aspiring DJs and musicians with the skills and confidence to share their passion with the world.
Each April, we celebrate neurodiversity with our special event at Cubberley TK-8, where we come together to embrace and honor our differences. We promote kindness and inclusion, spreading awareness and understanding throughout our community. Moreover, we are dedicated to supporting other schools within the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) in launching their own Neurodiversity Celebrations, helping to create a culture of acceptance and empathy throughout our educational landscape.
Together, we are building a vibrant and supportive social community for neurodivergent youth, ensuring that everyone knows they are seen, heard, and cherished for who they are.
