Community Spotlight: HomeFirst

Provided by HomeFirst

Every day, HomeFirst Services works to end homelessness by providing a full spectrum of services to help people find a home, improve their lives, and stay housed.

For over 40 years, HomeFirst has been a leading provider of housing options for people experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Sonoma Counties. We meet individuals where they are, offering case management and clinical services to help people begin their journey to permanent housing with individualized support along the way.

Let us tell you a story...

Chris, a former HomeFirst participant, became homeless when he left an abusive relationship and turned to drug use to cope with his issues. After leaving the relationship, he lost his housing. Shortly after, he lost his job.

He felt hopeless and powerless to change his life, but then Chris became connected to HomeFirst. Chris was able to move into a sleeping cabin at the Rue Ferrari Emergency Interim Housing (EIH) community where he worked with a case manager and the staff there. He found resources to get sober and attended life skills workshops like resume writing and mock interviews. Slowly, Chris regained his self-confidence, which helped him secure a job and then his own apartment. Chris says that within the EIH community he found the space to care about himself again.

For Chris, looking toward the future, addressing issues and behaviors that held him back, gaining self-confidence all began with a safe place to sleep, a hot meal, and supportive care.

You can make a difference to so many who, like Chris, need a fresh start and a little help to begin the next chapter of their lives.
