Description
Ready to propel you through gnarly terrain, the Tecton X 3 adds winglets to its carbon fiber plates for extra stability in just the right spots, and two layers of PEBA in the midsole—Hoka's lightest, most resilient compound. Redesigned lug shape and positioning on a Vibram® Megagrip with Litebase outsole provide better traction, while a dynamic vamp allows feet to splay as the miles fly by. Topping it off, a knit collar extends up from the tongue like a gaiter to mitigate trail debris, and a lightweight Matryx® textile upper makes this version more durable and trail-worthy than ever.

Absolutely amazing!!
The shoe has great traction for trails. The gaiter works. No dirt , rocks etc. got into my socks. (The Speedgoats need built in gaiters) The carbon plate actually adds a bounce in your step , not too much just enough. The shoe overall adds an ease to the grind of trail running.
TectonX3
Pros: Comfortable insole and very light. Con: Unstable around the ankle area. Rolled my ankle and tore two tendons on my first run wearing the Tecton X3 on 1/31/25
Beware the purple dye will stain your socks
I'm a tecton fan as a shoe for comfort and speed so when I ran through my Tecton X 1 I was excited to upgrade to the 3. They're super comfortable out the box BUT my white socks turned purple. Then another pair. And another. I have to keep wearing the shoe because I spent so much on it and it's comfy but I will have to only wear black socks now. I also hope Hoka sees this review and changes this dye staining for the next shoe.
Tread doesn't last
I walk up hills all the time and I've had my hokas less than a year and the tread is gone. I paid too much for them to only last 6-7months
Not for me or my knees!
I wanted to love these, but they hurt my knees. I wear the Bondi 7, 8 religiously and I was hoping to try a hightop to protect my ankles. The shoe looks great with pretty much anything, but for some reason my knees started to hurt so I returned them. Was super bummed :-(
