Could be better.
I don't like that you have to click the power button 4 times to the get the brightest mode. And it doesn't remember the setting you had it on, so the next time you go to use it you have to cycle through all of the different light modes again.

Got this light as a warranty replacement for a 15+ year old light that was discontinued. Build quality seems quite sturdy, button is recessed enough to avoid inadvertent activation, but is still accessible enough to access with a gloved hand. Versatility of being able to use AAA batteries or the rechargeables is a plus. Will probably buy/try out the bigger rechargeable soon.

Very bright and functional. I haven't used it enough to drain the rechargeable battery so I'm anxious to see how long that lasts. The flashlight is built stout so I don't see a problem with it taking a lot of abuse.

Ok, so here's the deal - I unequivocally love my Coast Polysteel 500R LED flashlight. It exceeds all of my expectations in performance & build. It performs admirably & certainly is an excellent replacement for my ancient heavy duty metal flashlight. So, now the update... I purchased the bundle which included a ZX865R rechargeable lithium batt. Now the installed ZX465 rechargeable batt charged fine w/my USB-C to USB-C cable & 20 watt charger cube. However, for the life of me, it would not work w/the new ZX865; in fact none of the status lights would illuminate when plugged in. Curiously, a blue light would illuminate when the power plug was unplugged from the wall outlet. After several weeks of head scratching, I called Coast Products CS. Both Audrey & David were very engaging & efficiently helpful. Cutting to the chase, even though the ZX865 lithium batt is a new product, it requires the use of the older technology USB-A to USB-C cable. I ordered a USB-A to USB-C cable; and will wonders never cease, it worked! And that is the rest of my story! I am completely satisfied w/the whole Coast Products experience. And although there were some bumps in the road, people like Audrey & David represented Coast Products in a manner that would make any business owner smile with pride. Thanks Audrey, David & Coast Products! I am getting ready to add to my Coast flashlight products hh stash as I continue to replace all of my old flashlights.

Once I figured out how to cycle through the 4 different beam modes, everything is cool. I like the robust build & the four beam modes. It is my new household/emergency flashlight! And having a rechargeable battery is a nice feature. When I went online to to locate instructions for the Polysteel 500R, it was nowhere to be found. I just surmised from other instructions from other similar Coast flashlights how to manage the beam modes. What I struggled with initially, I could not really see the difference in the beams as I did quick presses of the on/off switch. When it got dark, I did the cycling again and then I could see the difference, so all is good. However at the risk of whining, there went 2 hours of my life I will never get back trying to operate a flashlight! LoL! Oh well, I still love my new Coast flashlight! A tip to marketing from a retired sales & marketing manager - don't say you can find instructions for your flashlight when it's nowhere to be found. Keep your website up to date.
