Description
Simplified and refreshed. Altra built the Escalante 4 as a nod to the fan-favorite Escalante 1.5, with FootShape fit, greater flexibility, and a lighter weight. Tackle fast training runs, daily walks, or everyday errands in this streamlined and versatile road-mile destroyer. It’s got an engineered knit upper for a more sock-like and forgiving fit, with a knit tongue, just like the original Escalante. They evolved the rubber midsole for a lighter weight and more flexibility so you can feel connected to the road. An updated footbed feels more like the iconic Escalante 1.5 and 2.0, with the same Altra EGO™ midsole foam for responsiveness and comfort. Move the way you were designed to with a roomy toe box to help your toes move freely and zero drop. How did they pack so much comfort and style into such a simple shoe? Lace it up, take it out, and see for yourself!

Colour is way off..
Shoes are very comfortable, although I had to take the insoles out in order for them to fit properly. These are far too tight in the mid shoe area. THESE SHOES ARE NOT BLACK, NOT EVEN CLOSE! The 'black' model is absolutely dark navy blue.
Another good iteration

This is my third pair of Escalante's and I like this pair a lot. The upper is knit but seems to deform less than my last pair and the cushion is just enough to be supportive but still allow ground-feel.
so far so good

Great fit for those used to wearing the Lone Pine's
These will be my last Altra shoes
Altra Escalante 4 purchased on November 15th, 2024. First use on November 25th, 2024 with an easy 10km. As result, the outsole on the outer part has already gone (see on the pictures) on both shoes !!! After 10 km !!!! At this price !!! It's simply a disgrace. As a long time Altra shoes user (since the lime one Altra The One and the blue one Torin 1), I can compare several versions of different Altra models. And I can confirm without any hesitation that the durability of Altra shoes has shown an inverse relationship with their prices. I already had a durability issue with my Altra Torin 5, With the upper litteraly cut after 3 months. I feel like Altra has sacrified everything that made their strengths (durability, prices, large toebox, low stack) ton the altar of profitability. Altra was once unique because it was THE company which produced zero-drop with large toeboex shoes. But now, they become A mainstream company among others which sells shoes like others companies, and from time to time, releases a model with large toebox, a big marketing tralala to support it ... I doubt my review will be read by some Altra product manager, neither it will be published ... but one thing is hundred percent sure : these will be my last Altra shoes, and once used, I will choose another brand.
