Compact, Quick and Easy
I picked this up last minute before a canoe trip because I couldn't find my filter bottles, but found that the flexible bottle is much more convenient than a hard sided one. This bottle is designed to be light, so I do not think they built in a taste neutralizing filter, but in the BWCAW, the ...

Really Disappointed
I had high hopes for this filter. With a larger diameter bottle opening it was easier to fill. However, with less than twenty liters of water filtered, it completely stopped. I live in the Rockies, and I have only used this filter in clear, cold rocky mountain streams. I followed cleaning directions...

Easy and Convenient
Quick and easy to filter water. I've always used a pump filter and now just fill container and squeeze. It is also much lighter than my pump.
Best filter system I've ever used.
Is very quick and easy. So simple and compact. Just bring it along with another water bottle.
Most effective, excellent product
I never write reviews but this product is exceptional. the best filtration device out there. Super easy to use. Extremely effective. Very practical. Fast flow. Super light weight. My only complaint is that I didn't bring two!
Easy to carry
This is the easiest and lightest water purifying system that we've used. We like it so much that we all have one and we take it on day hikes and cross country trips. The biggest tip for me was learning to refill bottles with it rather than relying on the bottle alone.
Benefit of Collapsable Water Filtration System
Perfect for my trip to Italy! Easy to pack when not filled. Perfect to use as it filtered the water as you're drinking it. No problem going through a metal detector either in museums. Great find!
instructions on website seem really skimpy
so far used it on one trip, worked well but long term stability of filter without backflush could be problematic but my big concern is how skimpy the website is on stuff like cleaning; really below what you would expect I'm also not sur that this really produces safe water without a extra step like iodine tablet, again the website has just a few buzz words about how good the filter is, but they are skimpy buzzwords why the lack of *real tech knowledge on the website why is there no well written PDF instruction manual ? surely they can afford to make a PDF instruction manual
Katadyn Be Free Water Filter
Light weight and works great. I have only used it four times (three day hikes and one 3 day trip) and so far it is up to expectations. The filter does need to be cleaned frequently as the flow slows after a little use, but it is super easy to clean the filter by "swishing" it for a few seconds in any relatively clean water (can even be the water source you are filtering to drink from). Very light weight, very compact.
The top cap with break fast
The bottle, the filter, the system, everything is purely amazing, but one little thing super annoying that makes it kindda useless. The top flipping cap breaks super fast. Once gone its kinda useless item i feel. It leaked in my tent and in my bag(since there is no hook to carry it outside your bag). So with the top cap this is the best thing in the world, without the cap its pure hell with water everywhere in your bag.
Works perfectly and quickly. Lightweight.
We purchased two of these water purifiers for our home disaster evacuation kit. Fortunately we had them on hand this fall when flooding caused the water supply in an emergency campground to become contaminated. The water purifier bottles worked perfectly and quickly during the five days we needed them. When we got home, we cleaned them for the next disaster, or better yet, next adventure in the outdoors. They are very lightweight and easy to transport.
Looks to be a winner.
Just tried a few of these on a 4-day backpack. Worked great. Filtration was fast. Mainly used with water that was clear. Like that they're re-useable. A nice alternative to the Sawyer Squeeze/Smartwater bottle combo. Will see how they work over the long term.
