We got to test this out on a moderate 4 mile hike in Muir Woods. My daughter was able to control downhill and uphill climbs much better than non-hiking shoes. It was comfortable for her to wear the whole time, but she did say that the top part was digging into her foot when it was strapped too tight. If you loosen it a bit, it fits great.
