Over 25 years ago, Smartwool invented the original Merino wool performance sock—the Classic Hike. The Classic Hike remains mostly unchanged and certainly unmatched in comfort. But today, it’s getting upgraded. And that upgrade starts with recycled nylon—adding more sustainability to their favorite socks. They’re also made with responsibly sourced, ZQ-certified wool that was grown with a focus on ensuring environmental, social, and economic sustainability while also taking the best care of their Merino sheep. My feet know the difference!!
I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center for special needs individuals. On a average day I walk 6 miles. I have worn Smartwool hiking socks under my boots for over 10 years. There is nothing that compares to their comfort. They cushion my feet, keep moisture away, and provide foot support. Summer ...

Not as comfy as I'd hoped
For something that's called "light" padding its way thicker than some mediums I have also from smart wool so it is confusing. Definitely not going to work for hiking purposes as it all bunches up but will be fine for wearing for winter travel

Right for me!!
They are so comfy and warm!!! Last week when we had below 0 temperatures they kept me toasty outside!
Nice and warm comfort.
I wear these with slippers all winter long.
Best warm socks I've ever worn!
Perfect for the first winter in New York for a California girl away at college.
Highly Recommend
I have been wearing Smartwool socks for a few years. I have circulatory issues in toes and it is imperative that I keep toes warm. This particular crew sock I wear as an everyday sock if I am going to be outdoors during cold weather. I am a walker but not a hiker. I find the socks warm and cozy. Very durable and does well in washings. Smartwool brand recommended by my podiatrist.
Merino Wool fan
I'm a walking fool, every day, in all kinds of weather in Western NY. These socks are keeping me warm inside my hiking boots. Also really comfortable!
When asked for gift suggestions, I always want smartwool
I own a small farm with wool sheep. I know the value of natural fiber in durability and comfort. I wear them year round. All of my sisters live smartwool
When people need gift ideas for me, I always want smartwool
All of sisters love smart wool socks. I have a small farm and wear them daily even in the summer time for their durability and comfort for working outside. Since they are a natural fabric like cotton, they do not heat up my feet unnecessarily. I have wool sheep on my small farm.
Stringy bits, too big, not classic SmartWool quality
I would love to love to love these. I've been a Smartwool customer and prosyletizer for a good two decades or more. I love SW socks. These SUCK! They're way, way, way too big. (Been buying the same size for 20 years as well and my feet didn't shrink.) And, even unwashed, they're already showing stray strings. Come on, SmartWool. Make us believers proud.

Been buying M SW socks for 20+ years - these are NOT up to p
Same issue with the other pair I just bought: waaaaaaaaay too big and I've been buying the same size SW socks for well over two decades. And there's very little stretch to them. These socks (and I ordered several pairs in a couple colors) are all just WAY too big ... And there's very little stretch to them.
