Breakfast Skillet at Lodgepole Overflow Campground
I tried this meal as a Ranger for the Dyrt at Lodgepole Overflow Campground in Lake Alpine. This meal was very easy to make and filling and had a lot of flavor. The salt intake is a bit on the high end, so be aware if you generally avoid high sodium foods. It is an excellent backpacking choices bec...

Strong Smoked Flavor
This is the first package of Mountain House we didn't like the taste of. It had a strong smoked flavor to it. We opened another pack and it was the same. I threw the remaining five packs into the trash. We can't recommend this one.

Hearty and Satisfying
This is one of my favorite breakfast offerings from Mountain House - it rehydrates quickly and tastes delicious as it is or with some cheese sprinkled on top. More than enough to feed two of us.
Easy to make
Very good way to start the day when on a wilderness canoe/camping adventure.
Food insurance
My order of 15 breakfast skillets is put away for food insurance. Mountain house is the best. Is why I keep ordering even after 30 years

Breakfast skillet
I live in Florida and it's hurricane season. We have "go bags" at the ready and Mountain House is a lightweight staple. If you've ever had to evacuate, lost power for several days, or just want to be prepared, buy these.
Fast, filling, Tasty
Have had this countless times. It's usually this or oatmeal to start the camping day. Tried other brands and always ended up with mountain house.
New recipe sucks
Absolutely disgusting. They use their gross weird sulfur tasting eggs and strips of potatoes in what used to be the best mountain house, hands down. The original breakfast skillet had chunks of hash browns and big fluffy eggs and was the meal keeping me a die-hard mountain house user for the past two decades. I am wholly disappointed :(
A good travel meal for those with Celiac
I have Celiac, so safe dining while traveling can be extremely challenging. I pack a few of these on every trip so that I always have an option for a hot meal, and doing so has come in handy on several occasions. The taste is pretty decent (a lot better than eating nothing) so I've been happy to have them around. My biggest gripe is that this meal (and all Mountain House freeze dried packs) are absolutely LOADED with sodium. If you've been hiking all day, I can understand why you'd want that much sodium in a meal. But it would be nice to have a few lower-sodium options for those of us who eat these for medical reasons.
Flavorful and Filling!
The Breakfast Skillet Pouch was my first taste of Mountain House, and it did NOT disappoint! The food was flavorful, filling, and simple to make. I let mine soak for a bit longer than directed. Overall I was really impressed with this meal. Can't wait to try more!
It will build a poop, I guess
Not my favorite by a long shot. I need a variety of breakfast. I dont do soy and granola aint my style. Biscuits and Gravy is awesome. This has the same issue all their other egg dishes have...The eggs taste like they have fake, liquid smoke in them. But I've found if you dump enough Tapatio in it, you can choke it down . Please, guys, bring back the Southwest Skillet!!!!!
