Bought this for a road trip where we needed our third row and room for bags. Worked great. A couple of notes: 1. For those who complain about it not being waterproof: please read that it says water "resistant" - not proof. We drove through a whole day of rain and it was wet inside. But we expected it and wrapped our bags in garbage bags. They were dry as a bone. If you know what to expect it works great. 2. This thing did not move. That really surprised me based on the strap system. They clearly had it figured out. The one thing it needs, however, is some way to manage the loose ends of the straps. At highway speeds they flop around on the roof. We pulled off after a couple of miles and just duct taped them. Worked like a charm. Thing was silent the rest of the way. All in all - this product surprised me and to the upside. Definitely recommend.
Definitely not water proof !
I have had this product for probably 7 years and have used it very little until the last 2 years. The design and manufacturing of this product are awesome. stitching is well done. materials are sturdy and heavy duty. Very expandable in design. Zippers are heavy duty. My main complaint with this product is the wording of its description on this website. Weather resistant doesn't mean water proof! So on a recent 3 week trip out west I stored some of out camping equipment in this product and it was place in a bed of a pickup. Very little rain on this trip but some. For the most part everything stayed dry except for items on the very bottom and they didn't get ruined just a little wet, no big deal. I assume i just didnt zip it up properly or for got to pull the zipper covers all the way down. Next trip was to Florida and on the way back stopping in Tennessee. Well on our way from Florida to Tennessee it started to rain and did not stop for 3 days. Same situation extra camping equipment and in a bed of a pickup. well this time EVERYTHING got soaked! Well it appears the bottom of the carrier is not water proof or weather resistant at all. Water wicked into the carrier and by the end of the trip there had to be 3 gallons of water in the carrier. I would still recommend this product but be aware that this product IS NOT water proof. If you put items in it that may be damaged by moisture and this will not protect them.

Fabric disintegrated over 3 day trip
I bought this bag for extra storage for a trip from Seattle to Tucson AZ. It seemed well designed and perfect for my needs, fitting nicely on our Eurovan roof between the cross bars. I packed it to a comfortable rounded contour and headed out. After the four day highway trek, on arrival in AZ, I found the material the bag is made of had virtually begun to delaminate and disintegrate from its mesh core fabric, opening some 1-2" holes. It was not opened during the trip. I can only speculate that temperatures somewhat below freezing and wind flutter combined to weaken the material. However, this product should be expected to be able to handle such conditions as part of normal use and it was certainly not abused in any way.
Spacious but Leaky
We needed extra space for our family of 6, and this product looked promising. It certainly has a TON of space, and it freed up our trunk space considerably. I bought it hoping that the half of the reviews where it "kept the contents dry" were right. Unfortunately, I found the "wet" reviews were more accurate. One our very first trip - 10 hours, Dallas to Dauphin Island, AL - we drove through a 1 hour rainstorm. Upon arrival, the bottom was soaked about 3/4 from front to back (see attached picture). I had read the "wet" reviews and thus put all the bags in trash bags, just to be safe, and some of the contents STILL got wet. We took 1 more 10+ hour trip this summer, and the same thing happened. It's an attractive and sturdy bag, with strong tie-downs and zippers/pulls, and it stays anchored on the roof well. However, Thule needs to re-design the bottom with waterPROOF materials. I returned this product and bought a Thule roof box, which should be waterproof.

Durability excellent plus the extra room!
This worked perfectly as that needed extra packing space. My son has a walker and that takes up a lot of space on trips. Thule Interstate allowed for the family to pack all of the needed "stuff" for the family vacation, and still let us have his walker available in the main compartment.
9000 miles and like new.
Have traveled from Massachusetts to Colorado and back three time when my son was stained there in the Army. Loaded up, all kinds of weather, I think its way better than the hard case I cad (Sears X Cargo) because I can strap it on, or off in minutes, rather than bolt it down with hardware. I think its great!
Poor Quality Roof Bag
Purchased the Thule Interstate Roof Pouch in April 2019. Used this roof bag once on June 14, 2019 to stow our duffle bags for a trip to Lake Superior, and within 500 miles of interstate driving (getting halfway to our destination), the outer layer of the bag peeled off leaving a mesh material. We got lucky that there was no precipitation of any kind during our drive!! The bag was so damaged that we could not use it for the remainder of our trip. Such a disappointment, the last roof bag we owned was a competitor brand that lasted 20 years.
Best I have used. 4 years old still going strong.
Use it at least 2 times a year on cross country trips from AZ to VA. It carries an amazing amount of gear. It has been abused and still looks great. Spray the outside with a silicone type water proofer for best results. We always put garbage bags over items just in case.
